Understanding of Education

KUNA e.V.’s understanding of education is oriented toward developing transformation competence. It is not only about building knowledge, but about the ability to understand complex situations, reflect on decisions, and act responsibly. Sustainable development is characterized by conflicting goals, uncertainties, and diverse interests. Education that aims to be effective in this context must enable individuals and organizations to navigate ambivalence, integrate multiple perspectives, and remain capable of action.

The pedagogical approach integrates three levels: subject-matter orientation (What is the topic? Which contexts and interconnections are relevant?), reflective orientation (Which values, assumptions, and influences shape perception and decision-making?), and social orientation (How is cooperation, dialogue capacity, and joint action capability developed?). KUNA e.V. selects methods so that these levels are balanced appropriately, avoiding under- or over-challenging the target groups.

Didactically, KUNA e.V. relies on dialogue-oriented, participatory, and experiential learning settings. Dialogue-oriented means that content is not merely presented, but explored collaboratively, using diverse perspectives as learning resources. Participatory means that participants are not recipients but co-creators; opportunities for involvement are structurally integrated. Experiential means learning connects to real-life situations, case studies, locations, and actions, with active support for transfer.

Equally important is transferability: educational offerings must work for very diverse audiences, from civil society actors to institutional partners. Therefore, KUNA e.V. works with clear learning objectives, transparent format logic, and suitable documentation methods. Where appropriate, results are transformed into materials, process documentation, or handbooks to ensure impact beyond the immediate moment.
