At KUNA e.V., research and knowledge work are integral to quality assurance and conceptual development. The association does not view knowledge work as an academic sideline, but as a systematic practice that consolidates insights from projects and educational formats, reflects on them, and makes them usable in other contexts.
A core aspect of knowledge work is linking practice and theory. Projects and formats generate experiential knowledge: What works under which conditions? Which target groups are reached? Which factors promote or hinder impact? These insights are systematically documented and connected with professional discourses in education for sustainable development (ESD), adult education, cultural education, transformation research, and intercultural collaboration. This produces conceptual contributions that support internal learning processes while remaining relevant externally.
Depending on the initiative, knowledge work includes analyses, professional articles, concept papers, documentation, evaluations, or publications. Crucially, results do not disappear at the end of a project, but are made reusable as materials, insights, or recommendations. This increases impact, facilitates follow-up projects, and strengthens transparency toward funders. At the same time, research and knowledge work support profile-building: they demonstrate that KUNA e.V. not only implements initiatives, but also grounds, reflects on, and further develops them. For ministries and funding institutions, this signals professionalism, reliability, and capacity for collaboration.
